The construction of hierarchies characterizes the old leadership, where managers assume the roles of leaders and try to optimize the organization to work as an efficient machine.

The New Leadership (NL) looks for flatter organizations capable of operating in multiple geographies, often with a clear awareness of their impact in the environment, support the potential of individuals, and in many cases, a focus on producing systemic social and economic changes.

I learned that personal leadership incorporates balancing elements for responsible personal development, that means some level of detachment from objectives and a higher priority for experiencing joy throughout the process of entrepreneurship. Peter Drucker said that “Culture eats strategy for breakfast,” I dare to add that “Wisdom eats knowledge for breakfast.”

Don’t get me wrong, objectives, and results are paramount for the NL; the difference is that the organizational objectives should consider its members’ wellbeing as a main priority.

The NL understands the importance of scaling up, creating sustainable business models, and relies on new models of cooperation to succeed. It empowers teams to join the organization organically and add their inputs. NL also understands that diversity is better than “experts,” and naturally understands that new trendy methodologies are tools to adapt, not guidelines to follow.

Ultimately, if you see yourself as an older version of yourself, let’s say, after your seventies, what would you like to see? One of the speakers that hosted the program participants and me made me know that I want to be an energetic, confident, active, and joyful person, capable of surprising the youngsters with a twist, a dance, and a sincere laugh that comes from deep within.

Entrepreneurship gets more meaning if I use it as a tactic to live my purpose, but more than that, if it helps me live a joyful life every day!

I recommend you research Dr. Ryszard Praszkier work and books.
